What Logan Residents Should Do If Their Crown Falls Out While Traveling

Traveling is a way to relax and explore, leaving very little room for dental emergencies.

Traveling is a way to relax and explore, leaving very little room for dental emergencies. But if you’re a Logan resident and your dental crown unexpectedly falls out while you’re away, don’t panic. Here’s what you should do to stay comfortable and protect your tooth until you can get in to see your dentist.

Retrieve the Crown

If your crown falls out, try to find it and store it safely in a clean container. In many cases, your dentist will be able to reattach it, especially if it isn’t damaged.

Inspect the Crown and Your Tooth

Gently rinse the crown and the exposed tooth in warm water. If you find that your tooth underneath is sharp or sensitive, you can cover it with some dental wax (available at most pharmacies). This will help prevent discomfort and protect the tooth against damage.

Use Temporary Dental Cement

If you’re experiencing sensitivity or discomfort, you can use over-the-counter dental cement or temporary crown adhesive to reseat the crown. Follow the instructions very carefully if you choose this route. Avoid using household glues as well because they’re unsafe for oral use.

Watch What You Eat

Until the dentist can properly secure or replace your crown, it is best to avoid sticky, hard, or crunchy foods. Stick with soft foods and chew on the opposite side of your mouth to prevent aggravating the tooth.

Contact Your Logan Dentist

Even when you’re traveling, it’s a good idea to call your Logan dental office. They can offer you more guidance and recommend temporary steps you can take. They can also help you schedule a visit for when you return home. If you’re experiencing severe pain or swelling, they might be able to find you a local dentist where you are for urgent care.

Schedule Your Next Visit

Be sure to schedule a dental appointment for when you return. Whether the crown needs to be reseated or replaced, prompt care can help prevent infection or further damage to the natural tooth.

A lost crown can feel like an inconvenience when you’re traveling and supposed to be having fun, but a few quick actions can help you stay on track and protect your smile. Logan residents who keep their dentist’s number handy and a small dental emergency kit in their travel bag will always be a couple of steps ahead.
