CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. In simple terms, it is a system that allows our cosmetic dental team to design, create, and place a custom-fitted dental crown in one visit. Traditional crowns usually require two appointments. First, dentists prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown. Then you wait a week or two while a dental lab creates the final crown.
CEREC technology removes that waiting period. Using advanced digital imaging and in-office milling technology, your dentist can create a strong ceramic crown specifically designed for your tooth the same day. The crown is shaped, color-matched, and polished right in our office so it blends naturally with the rest of your smile.
Our process begins with a careful examination of your tooth to make sure a crown is the right solution. Dentists commonly recommend crowns for:

They can also support large fillings. If a crown is the right solution for you, we prep the tooth and take a precise digital scan using a small handheld camera. The scan replaces traditional dental impressions, which used trays and putty.
The digital scan creates a detailed 3D image of your tooth and surrounding teeth. We use that image to design your custom crown. Once we finalize the design, the CEREC machine begins milling the crown from a block of high-quality ceramic. The process usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Once the machine finishes milling the crown, it is polished and color-adjusted to match your natural teeth.
The final step is placing the crown. Your dentist will check the comfort, fit, and bite carefully before bonding it securely to your tooth. Once it is in place, the crown functions just like a natural tooth. You can smile, speak, and eat comfortably without worrying about a temporary restoration.
