Can a Crown Really Be Done in One Visit?

If your dentist has told you a crown is coming, you may already be bracing for the usual routine.

If your dentist has told you a crown is coming, you may already be bracing for the usual routine. An appointment to prepare the tooth, a temporary crown to wear for a couple of weeks, then a second visit to place the real one. For a lot of people, it's the waiting and the extra trip that feel like the biggest hassle. So it's fair to ask whether a crown can really be finished in a single visit.

Why Crowns Used to Take Two Appointments

For years, getting a crown meant sending a mold of your tooth to an outside lab. The lab needed time to build the crown, so you'd leave with a temporary one in the meantime. That temporary did its job, but it could feel bulky, come loose, or make you careful about what you ate on that side. The second visit was needed to place the finished crown once it came back from the lab.

How a Same-Day Crown Works

Technology has changed that part of the process. Logan Peak Dental uses CEREC technology, which uses digital technology to help design and create many crowns right in the office. For many patients, that means the whole thing can be done in one appointment when the situation is a good fit for it.

Why That Matters for You

Fewer visits is the obvious benefit, but it's the little things that patients tend to notice most. No weeks spent babying a temporary. No taking more time off to come back. No second round of numbing. When a same-day crown is appropriate, you can leave with the tooth restored and protected without needing to come back for a second appointment. When you have a full schedule, that convenience can make a real difference.

When One Visit Makes Sense

Not every crown is the same, and some situations still call for more than one appointment or a different approach. Your dentist can look at the tooth, check the bite, and let you know what to expect for your specific case. If you've been putting off a crown because you dreaded the back and forth, it's worth asking whether a same-day option could make it easier. A quick conversation is the best way to find out what fits your situation.
